The CDHD is proud to offer a series of “Living Well” workshops aimed at helping people dealing with chronic illness manage their conditions, make healthy choices and solve problems related to their condition.

The workshops, which are facilitated by trained leaders, will take place once a week from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm on Thursdays beginning July 28th. There is also an evening workshop from July 27th – August 31st, Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. at the Central District Health Department. The workshops run for 6 weeks and take place at the YMCA of Grand Island. All workshops are free and snacks will be provided.

The “Living Well” workshops are specifically designed to be interactive, informative and supportive of those with a variety of chronic illnesses. Those who suffer from conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, migraines, cancer, diabetes, depression, obesity, anxiety and other chronic conditions are encouraged to attend.

Each session gives participants the tools to take control of their ongoing health conditions. Topics covered include:

-Medication management
-Action planning
-Communicating health issues with medical professionals
-Healthy eating
-Physical activity
-Problem solving

Those who participated in the workshops reported more energy, less fatigue, improved overall health and health care cost savings. This is designed for all levels of illness and for those who might have never taken part in a group like this before.

There is no cost to sign up for the “Living Well” workshops and you can do so by calling CDHD at (308) 385-5175. You can also sign up at the Grand Island YMCA, 221 South Front Street in Grand Island. To learn more please visit www.cdhd.ne.gov.
