Lead Abatement
Central District Health Department (CDHD) has partnered with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to launch a lead hazard reduction initiative in Hall, Hamilton, and Merrick counties. Lead, a toxic heavy metal commonly found in older homes, was once widely used in paint. If your home was built before 1978, there is a significant chance it contains lead-based paint.
This program aims to build local capacity by training qualified lead-abatement contractors to safely remove this hazardous material. CDHD will offer free lead assessments for homeowners, renters, and landlords in qualifying properties through our Lead Project team.
Soon, a list of eligibility criteria and instructions on how to apply—whether as a contractor or as a property owner or resident—will be shared.
